Belief Statement

If you are wondering what Shilo Creed believes, your in the right place! Here is a brief statement of the basics.

God
I believe in one God, the creator and sustainer of all things. He is perfect, constant, and unchanging—completely loving, good, and holy, and limitless in knowledge, power, and presence. God exists eternally as three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—each fully divine, sharing the same essence and attributes, while carrying out distinct roles. In his grace, God has eternally purposed to redeem a people for himself, and he alone is worthy of my wholehearted love and worship.

Scripture
I believe God has spoken through human authors in the Scriptures, the sixty-six canonical books of the Old and New Testaments. The Bible is the only written Word of God, verbally inspired, self-authenticating, unchanging, and without error in all it affirms. As God’s authoritative and infallible revelation, it is fully sufficient for every aspect of life, doctrine, and practice. I trust and obey it as the foundation of truth.

Creation and Fall
I believe God created everything—both visible and invisible—out of nothing, and declared it all very good. He continues to uphold and govern creation for his glory and the good of his creatures. God created humanity in his image, male and female, to know him, love him, glorify him in covenant relationship, and steward his creation. Adam, the first man, disobeyed God, bringing sin, death, guilt, shame, and a curse upon the earth. I believe all people, including myself, are born with a sinful nature, separated from God, and unable to save ourselves.

Jesus
I believe in Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, who became human to redeem us. Born of the virgin Mary, he is fully God and fully man. He lived a perfect, sinless life and gave himself willingly as the atoning and reconciling sacrifice for my sins on the cross. He died, was buried, rose bodily on the third day, ascended into heaven, and now reigns at the right hand of the Father as the only mediator between God and humanity. I believe he will one day return to judge the living and the dead.

Gospel
I believe the gospel is the good news that God became man in Jesus Christ to reconcile lost people to himself. Jesus lived a flawless life in my place, died on the cross for my sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day, securing eternal redemption. He defeated Satan and all the forces of darkness and ascended into heaven as Lord of all. I believe that through repentance and faith in him, I receive forgiveness of sins and eternal life.

Salvation
I believe that salvation is the gracious plan of God, determined before time began and revealed throughout Scripture. It is his rescue of sinful people like me through faith in the redemptive work of Christ. Because of his great love, God made me spiritually alive through the regenerating power of the Holy Spirit. By grace, through faith and not by works, I have been forgiven, declared righteous, and united with Christ—receiving his righteousness, the Holy Spirit, and adoption into God’s family.

Holy Spirit
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the giver and renewer of life, sent to assure me of God’s promised future. The Spirit convicts me of sin, leads me to truth, awakens me to repentance and faith, and regenerates me. The Spirit unites me to Christ and makes me a partaker of the divine nature. Through the indwelling of the Spirit, I experience God’s presence and fellowship. Being filled with the Holy Spirit empowers me to serve, witness, and minister. By bearing the fruit of the Spirit and using spiritual gifts, I help build up the Church and reflect God’s kingdom.

Mission
I believe God’s mission is to redeem a people from every nation, tribe, and language and to restore creation for his glory. Just as the Father sent the Son and the Father and Son sent the Spirit, the Triune God now sends me—and the Church—into the world to proclaim the gospel, make disciples, and work for God’s justice and reconciliation.

Church
I believe in one, holy, universal, and apostolic Church—the body of Christ, with Jesus as its head. As part of God’s people on mission, I participate in a visible Church where believers gather to worship, pray, hear God’s Word, receive the sacraments, and share life together. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, the guidance of godly leaders, and the faithfulness of fellow disciples, Jesus builds and strengthens his Church—including me.

Sacraments
I believe that baptism and communion are the two sacraments instituted by Christ as visible signs of God’s covenant of grace. Through baptism, I publicly identify with Jesus in his death, burial, and resurrection and am welcomed into the Church. In communion, I join with other believers to remember Jesus’ body given and his blood shed for my forgiveness. In these sacraments, God confirms his promises and makes his grace tangibly known.

Sanctification
I believe sanctification is the ongoing process, beginning at the moment of regeneration, in which God conforms me to the image of Christ by the work of his Word and Spirit. By God’s grace, I grow in holiness and love for him and others as I submit to Jesus, follow his commands, and walk in step with the Spirit alongside fellow believers.

Second Coming
I believe that Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords, will return to earth bodily, in glory and power, at a time known only to the Father. He will raise the dead and judge all people. The righteous, including those in Christ, will receive glorified and immortal bodies and be rewarded. The unrighteous, along with Satan and the forces of darkness, will face eternal judgment. God will complete his redemptive work, renew all creation, and I, along with his people from every nation, will worship and reign with him forever.
